Bernice-Pottle Jones, born in 1917, spouse of Sharon Jones, daughter of Alice and Merle, died on November 13, 2012 at 95 years old.
AUGUSTA -- Bernice Pottle Jones, 95, of Augusta, died Nov. 13, 2012, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, with her loving family by her side. Bernice was born in Albion, the oldest daughter of Merle and Alice Annis.During World War II, Bernice volunteered as a civilian spotter for the Civil Air Patrol. She worked at the Commonwealth Shoe Factory and was an avid bowler and beano player.She was predeceased by her husbands, James W. Pottle and Raymond C. Jones; sons Robert Pottle and Wilmore Pottle; a daughter, Leatrice Bailey; sisters Muriel Taylor, Marita Littlefield and Helene Phinney; grandchildren Brenda Gray and Joseph Weeks; and a son-in-law, O'Niel Bechard. Bernice is survived by a daughter, Beverly Bowden, of Augusta; and a son, James W. Pottle, and wife Sharon, of Chelsea; a daughter-in-law, Linda Pottle, of West Gardiner; brothers Merle Annis, of Prospect, and Leon Annis and wife Marjean, of Belfast; and sisters Vivian Smart, of Stockton Springs, Marilyn Chase, of Belfast, Joyce Freero and husband George, of Alton, and Patricia Reed and husband Theodore, of Belfast; 12 grandchildren; and many great- and great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.A memorial service to celebrate Bernice's life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local animal shelter.
