SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Barbara Murphy Moore, of South Berwick, Maine, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on December 6, 2012, after a long battle with ovarian cancer. Barbara and her twin brother, Benson, were born August 28, 1926, to Leona and Joseph Murphy of Dover. She was a graduate of Dover High School in 1944 and the nursing school at Wentworth Hospital where she then worked as a Registered Nurse for several years. On November 27, 1947, she and George were joined in holy matrimony at the Dover Baptist Church in Dover. Barbara and George moved to Venezuela where they lived for one year before returning home with son, Bruce Robert (born 1951) to Weymouth, Mass. Barbara returned with George to Venezuela along with their sons, Bruce and Brian (born 1953), and Barbara's mother where they lived until 1959. Son, Bradley Nelson, was born and died there at 3 ½ years of age. In 1959 the family moved to Yorktown Heights, N.Y. Daughter, Bethany Carolyn, was born in 1961. In 1972 Barbara and George moved to Geneva, Switzerland along with Bethany and Barbara's mother. In 1975 Barbara and family returned to the United States and moved to Westport, Conn. where they lived for many years. In July 1985 Bethany passed away from Lymphoma. In 1987 Barbara and George moved to South Berwick, Maine. Barbara was an active member of the First Parish Federated Church in South Berwick. She enjoyed singing in the choir for the past 26 years. Barbara had a gentle loving spirit. To know her was to love her. She loved bird watching, especially Cardinals and humming birds, and she loved fresh flowers. She was always the most gracious hostess as she loved cooking and entertaining. She was an avid walker and loved dancing too. Every year she baked dozens of Christmas cookies to give away to family and friends. Barbara was the biggest fan of UNH Football, the Boston Red Sox, and the New England Patriots. She watched every game she could and always knew the entire roster each season. Barbara was the cornerstone of the Moore family and the glue that held everyone together. Barbara is survived by her husband of 65 years, George Robert Moore; twin brother, Benson Murphy of Dover; son, Bruce (and wife, Teri) Moore of Blythe, California; son, Brian (and wife, Joanne) Moore of Rye; four grandchildren: Matthew (and wife, Erica) Moore of Oceanside, California; Marcia (and husband, Donald) Van Slyke of Phoenix, Arizona; Kyle Moore of Dover; and Alehson Moore of Dover; two great grandsons, Mason Moore and Miles Van Slyke. She was preceded in death by children Bradley and Bethany; and older brother, Arthur Murphy. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McIntire-McCooey in South Berwick, Maine. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, December 9, 2012 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The service will be at the First Parish Federated Church on Monday, December 10, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. to be conducted by Rev. Donna Muise. All are welcome and following the service there will be a reception in the vestry of the church to celebrate Barbara's life.
