GREENE, BARBARA (JOAN) GARDNER - age 82, of South Knoxville, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Fort Sanders Regional Hospital. She passed peacefully surrounded by family. She was a member of South Knoxville Church of Christ and retired from the Knox County School System as a secretary in the office of South Doyle High School. She loved working with young people. She was always a child at heart. JoAn graduated from Central High School and attended Tennessee Wesleyan College. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Andrew and Ella Mae Irwin Gardner; husband Bobby Mack Greene; brothers, Robert, Harold, and Benton Gardner; and sister, Aileen Mayfield. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sabra and Jerry Simpson; daughters, Laura and Julia Greene; son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Tracie Greene; granddaughter, Katie Greene; grandson, Nathan Greene; sisters, Lois Crooks, Frances Floyd, and Rosalind Eve; and her beloved granddogs, Yohan and Greta. Family will receive friends on Friday, December 26, 2014 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, with the funeral service to follow at 7:00 PM, Rev. Geoff Mabe officiating. Family and friends will meet at Woodlawn Cemetery on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 11:00 AM for interment services.
