BARBARA (HYNDMAN) ANDERSON - SHELBURNE - Barbara Anderson, of Shelburne, former longtime resident of Charlotte, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2015. Barbara was born in Framingham, Mass., on Nov. 26, 1926, the daughter of Rhubena Wilde and Brenton A. Hyndman. Barbara graduated from Framingham High School and the University of Massachusetts with a B.S. degree. She was employed by Western Mass Electric Company as a home economist after college. She married Frederick N. Anderson, Jr., on Sept. 15, 1951, and resided in Scotia, N.Y., for several years, later moved to Burlington and then to Charlotte in 1965, where they lived for over 45 years. Barbara was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. For many years, she was a member of the Burlington Garden Club, the Klifa Club, Kappa Alpha Theta alumnae groups, and the PEO Foundation. She was a dedicated lifelong volunteer, active with Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and the annual Cancer Drive for many years. She was a member of the Charlotte Congregational Church since the 1960s, serving on the Grounds Committee, the Restoration Committee, the Parsonage Committee, and the Ladies Aid Group. Barbara and her husband, Fred, enjoyed growing and selling Christmas trees to local families for over 35 years. She played bridge once a week with her beloved friends over the course of her adult life, and if not playing bridge, she was playing tennis or working in her flower and vegetable gardens. Barbara and Fred enjoyed many years of collecting antiques, and driving the backroads of Vermont together. Barbara was happiest when busy helping others, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and hers cats. She is survived by her daughter, Gail and husband, John Chiodo, and their daughter, Maya L., of Novato, Calif.; and son, Brenton D. Anderson and wife, Jamie, of Etna, N.H., and their three children, Tyler W., William B., and Elizabeth W. Barbara was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Fred; and youngest son, Robert Scott of Burlington. The Anderson family wishes to thank the kind and loving people of The Shores at Shelburne Bay, and the amazing nurses on 6th Floor McClure at the UVM Medical Center for making Barbara's final days so peaceful. A memorial service will be held at the Charlotte Congregational Church on Friday, April 17, 2015, at 2 p.m. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Howard Center, 208 Flynn Ave., Ste. 3J, Burlington, VT 05401; or the Vermont Respite House, 99 Allen Brook Lane, Williston, VT 05495.
