Obituary of Audrey-May Anderson


Suddenly at home on Saturday, January 11, 2003. Born in Carnarvon, Wales on August 23, 1928 and raised in Manchester, England, Audrey was the loving daughter of the late Harold and Dorothy (nee Jones) Alderson. Beloved wife of the late Major W. Maxwell Jessup. Cherished sister of Dennis (Rae) Alderson of Manchester, England. Remembered fondly by her nephews, Roger Alderson and family and Barry Davidson and family. She will be sadly missed by her many friends and associates. She emigrated to Canada in 1948 and graduated from Sir George Williams University, Montreal, she then obtained her teachers diploma from Queens University. After a business career in Montreal, Audrey taught in Ottawa at Eastview High School and the High School of Comêmerce. Audrey was most active in the community; she was a member of the Volunteers Circle of the National Gallery of Canada, serving on various committees and in particular, for more than 15 years with the School Outreach Program; she was chosen by the National Gallery of Canada in 2001, to receive the Canadian Volunteer Award. She was a founding member and active fundraiser for the Quebec Association for Independent Living (QUAIL), which supports a home in Chelsea for mentally challenged adults; founding member of the Ottawa Romance Writers; founding member of the Capital Crime Writers and a member of The Ladies Killing Circle. She was also a published writer in her own right. Audrey was a recipient of the Governor General's Caring Canadian Award in 2000. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa, on Sunday, January 19 from 1 p.m. until Memorial Service in the Chapel at 2 p.m. Reception to follow in the McGarry Family Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations to QUAIL, 10 chemin Sherrin, Chelsea, Quebec, J9B 2E2 or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
