CONKLIN Audrey Frances Conklin, 84, of Jacksonville, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2008 at Westminster Woods health center. She was born January 21, 1924 in Johnstown, PA, to Robert W. and Mary Frances Cover and had one sibling, the late William W. Cover. Mrs. Conklin graduated from Penn State University in 1946 and married Harry Conklin in 1947. She and her husband moved to Jacksonville in 1961, and she taught in the early elementary grades in the Jacksonville public schools for many years. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and other educational groups. Mrs. Conklin was a long-time member of Ortega United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years, initially teaching the little ones and later the Fellowship Class. She was a Bible student who was known for her inspirational lessons and devotionals. As a member of the Ortega United Methodist Women, she served as its president as well as a circle leader. Mrs. Conklin was a long-time member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and served as Regent for her local chapter. She loved traveling and had taken tours to Turkey, the Middle East, and Europe, as well as throughout the United States. Mrs. Conklin was preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years, Harry A. Conklin. She is survived by her nephews Robert Cover, John Cover, and David Cover, all of Fairfax, VA, by her niece and nephew Michele Gustin and Harry Conklin, both of Colorado, and by her "adopted family" in Jacksonville, Frank and Nancy Leigh and their daughters Jennifer Jakubowski, Rebekah Leigh, and Elisabeth Day. She also leaves behind a host of friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 22 at 10 a.m. at the Boyd Chapel at Ortega United Methodist Church, 4807 Roosevelt Boulevard, Jacksonville. Interment will be at a later date in Johnstown, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Audrey's name may be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
