SCOTT, Arthur Reginald Hugh Far too soon, Art passed away in the arms of his loved ones on October 15, 2008 after a valiant battle with lymphoma. He leaves behind his loving wife of 41 years, Valerie Anne, his son James (Helen) and daughter Shauna, his grandson Oscar, and brother Brian (Penny) of Calgary, three nephews Gordon (Allison), Bradley and Vincent, and his constant four-legged companion Maya. Art was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta where he acquired a lifelong love for the Rocky Mountains, often going by the nickname mountain man". Art's second love was the land south of the border, and he derived great pleasure visiting and traveling through Mexico, amusing his family (and the locals) with his self-taught Spanish. He often called himself Don Arturo. Art began his career as an analytical laboratory technician and chemist before shifting gears and working for both the Federal and Provincial Governments in communications until his retirement. During his retirement Art drove limousine for First Memorial Funeral Services, as well as Royal Limousine Service. He was an avid baseball fan, deriving much satisfaction from attending major league baseball games. He coached youth baseball for eleven years. He was a consummate Freemason and served the fraternity in many capacities, including conducting workshops, educational days, and presenting educational papers. He was a 32 year member of Park Lodge No 63 (Vancouver) and affiliated with Camosun Lodge No. 60 (Victoria) where he served as secretary for many years. Art was a past master of Haida Lodge No 166 and the Lodge of Education and Research. He also enjoyed membership in the Scottish Rite, the Holy Royal Arch, Cryptic Rite, Mark Mariners, Knights Templar, Knights Templar Priests, Order of the Secret Monitor and the York Rite College. A Past Master four times over, he was also a preceptor, Past Grand Pursuivant (1995) and Past Grand Director of Ceremonies (2007). Art and his family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to all the wonderful caregivers and practitioners at the Palliative Care Unit, Saanich Peninsula Hospital, Royal Jubilee Hospital and the Cancer Clinic, with very special thanks to Dr. Ronald Guy, a doctor whom Art considered more a longtime friend than his doctor, and to Dr. Catherine Fitzgerald, his very caring and capable oncologist. A memorial service will be held at First Memorial Funeral Services Chapel, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria, B.C. on Sunday November 2 at 2:00 pm with a reception to follow. Please make any donations in Art's memory to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital, Palliative Care Unit. Floral tributes are also welcome. 507910
