SCOTT, Arthur Mitchell (Mitch) Longtime member and elder of St. Andrew's Presbyterian ChurchI will sing and make music with all my soul.Psalm 108:11Throughout his long and active life, Mitch joyfully praised God through song, art, and loving support to his family, church and community. Born May 19, 1921 in Innisfail, Alberta, the youngest child of George and Helen Scott, Mitch and his family moved to Edmonton in 1928 where they were members of Strathcona Presbyterian. After graduating high school in 1941, Mitch served in the RCAF #419 Squadron completing more than 40 missions over Europe as Bomb Aimer in a Lancaster. In 1944, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for gallantry in the performance of his duties. Mitch graduated in 1949 with a BA from the University of Alberta followed by a Masters in Social Work from the University of Toronto. Working first in Toronto with Children's Aid, he then joined the John Howard Society in Toronto and St. Catherines and concluded his career working at Millhaven Institution in Kingston from 1976-1986. Retirement launched almost 30 years of enthusiastic adventures including: the "QECVI Senior Painters", two choirs, life on Georgian Bay, many trips, the GoodLife gym, Friday Night dinner club and participation in a wide variety of community interests. Mitch passed suddenly on July 2, 2014 in his 94th year. Predeceased by his beloved wife of 51 years Margaret Elizabeth (Bremner) in 2009; all his siblings and their spouses including: his brothers R. McAllister (Barbara and Louise) and George (Marjorie); his sisters Laura and Violet Scott, Jean Bentum (Bert), and Rachael Young (Cliff); his nephew Ian Bentum (Margery) and niece Ruth Foye (William). He is survived by his nephews Robert (Linda), Mitch (Heather) and George Scott and David Young (Linda); his nieces Janet Young and Laura Kilgour (David); many grand and great-grandnieces and nephews. The family thanks his many neighbours and friends who were the core of his life in Kingston. Please join in the celebration of Mitchell's life on Saturday, July 19 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 130 Clergy Street East, Kingston with visitation starting at 1:30 pm until the service at 2:30 pm and followed by a reception in the church hall.
