MACKENZIE, Arthur Hewat March 6, 1922 - December 21, 2009 We sadly announce the passing of Art MacKenzie on December 21st, 2009 at the age of 87 years at Joseph Brandt Memorial Hospital in Burlington, Ontario. Art is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Gwen MacKenzie, of Oakville, Ontario, his son Robert (Carole), of Oakville, his son Bruce (Kathy) and his two granddaughters, Kate and Hayley, all of Calgary, Alberta, his sister Joan Fraser of New Glasgow, N.S. and a very close family friend, Valerie Maclean of Ottawa, Ontario. He is predeceased by his eldest son, Mel, his sister-in-law Verda Chappell and his two sisters Winnie and Margaret. Art was born in Westville, Nova Scotia and joined his beloved Royal Bank of Canada in 1938. He had an outstanding 44 year career at the Royal Bank, retiring as a senior executive in 1982. Most of his career with the Bank was spent in Montreal. In 1947, Art met and married the "love of his life" Gwendolyn Chappell and they together raised their three boys. In retirement, Art and Gwen moved to Ottawa, a time they enjoyed very much before moving to Oakville in 2004. Art lived life to the fullest. His kindness, positive attitude, loyalty and mentorship are well remembered by many. He is remembered by his entire family with much love and affection. If desired, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada. A private family service will be held in Montreal at a later date.
