ANDERSON Arthur F. Anderson, 85, a lifelong resident of Orange, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 6, 2011 at West River Health Care Center in Milford. Born on December 14, 1925 in New Haven, he was the son of the late Arthur E. and Matilda Verner Anderson. Art is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Margaret S. Anderson of Orange; their four sons, Arthur C. Anderson and his wife Edna of Woodbridge, Steven B. Anderson and his wife Pam of Bethany, Keith A. Anderson and his wife Cathy of Orange and Douglas R. Anderson and his partner Roger Haener of Kerhonkson, New York; seven grandchildren, Paige, Courtney, A.J., Justin, Lindsey, Ryan and Kara; one great granddaughter, Angelina; one brother, Kenneth Anderson of Fort Mill, SC and several loving nieces and nephews. Art was predeceased by his sisters, Jessie McNeil and Violet Mullen. Art proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. In 1949 he founded Anderson Esso on Derby Avenue, West Haven, which continues today as Anderson Automotive, Inc. He and his wife Margaret enjoyed traveling, and made many trips to attend his Navy shipmate reunions for the USS Tingey DD539. Art, known to his family and close friends as "Pop", will always be remembered as a kind and gentle man with his soft voice and warm smile. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday morning, March 10, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford, concluding with a funeral service at 11 a.m. Internment will follow at Orange Center Cemetery in Orange. The family would like to thank the staff of West River Health Care for the kindness and attention they gave to Art for many years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Orange Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 878 Orange, CT 06477.
