Arimentha-Louise Williams, born in 1923, spouse of A. C Williams, died on August 31, 2014 at 91 years old. Please consult the obituary here:
Arimentha Louise Williams went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, August 31st, 2014 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. She was 91 years young! "Mentha" as she was known to her friends and family was born on April 30, 1923 in Florida City, Florida to Austin and Lenora Newton. She was the oldest of six children and learned at an early age the importance of family and hard work. Her father was a carpenter and led her and her siblings in the construction of their home in Liberty City which is still standing today! Mentha's hard work ethic extended to the field of academics and she graduated as valedictorian of her class from Dorsey High School in 1940. Following high school, she used a $200 scholarship award to attend the Sunlight School of Beauty Culture and graduated in 1941. She then opened her own beauty shop with a high school friend. Taught by her mother to sew, Mentha made drapes and furniture covers for the furniture in their new house as well as clothes for all of her siblings. This was one of her passions and was the beginning of the simple, selfless life of service that would become her hallmark. In fact, Mentha's view on life could best be summed up in the Apostle Paul's words, "Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have." In 1950, Mentha met Atwell "AC" Williams and was married a year later in Miami, FL. Over the next 18 years she gave birth to five boys; Andrew, Michael, Edgbert, Atwell and Bernard who - in her own words - were her pride and joy. Mentha was a deeply spiritual woman and instilled this same spirituality into her sons. She loved to sing psalms and hymns but mostly she loved God's word. She constantly read scripture and meditated on it day and night right up to the very end! She was preceded in death by her husband A.C. and is survived by her five sons; Andrew, Michael, Edgbert, Atwell and Bernard; her sisters Margarette Flowers and Dorothy Craig; and her ten grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. By all accounts and any measure, Arimentha Williams was a caring, compassionate woman who was determined to do the best for her family. She was liked by all who knew her and will be deeply missed by all who loved her! Public viewing will be held from 5PM to 7PM on Friday, September 5th at the Hall-Ferguson-Hewitt Mortuary located at 1900 NW 54th St. in Miami. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 6th at 10:00 AM at the The Church of the Incarnation located at 1835 NW 54th St. in Miami.
