STEWART COMMUNITY | Annie Ruth Smith, age 90, of Stewart Community, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, May 15, 2014, at Meadowbrook Extended Care Center in Northern Shelby County. Funeral services will be today, May 18, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Five Mile Primitive Baptist Church in Hale County with Brother Luke Laird officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South directing.She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Charles "Billy" Smith; parents, Ludie T. and Francis O. Clary; her brother, Thomas W. Clary and wife Evelyn; her sister, Lutie Belle Clary Massengale and husband Lloyd.Survivors include her daughters, Ginger S. Ramey (Walter) of Helena and Joann S. Wissinger (Marty) of Leeds; grandchildren, Chad E. Ramey (Heidi), Casey A. Ramey and Emily A. Wissinger; her two great-granddaughters who she adored and brought such joy to her life, Anna Elizabeth Ramey and Emma Claire Ramey.Annie Ruth lived her entire life in the Stewart community. She graduated from Akron High School where she was President and Salutatorian of her senior class. After graduation, wanting to go to business school, WWII kept her home to support her family.She was active in Five Mile Primitive Baptist Church and loved her church family. Known for her sweet personality and smiling face. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved to cook, sew and card for others in her unselfish manner. She was an active member in the Creative Homemaker Club of Hale County for many years and held several club offices. She excelled in providing a wonderful home environment for her family. She had many friends and loved to visit with them. She taught her daughters the important aspects of life, and lived her life as an example. They have always been so proud to call her "Mama."During her last days at the hospital and Meadowbrook Extended Care, she continued to be a kind and gracious lady. She would always smile and say, "Thank you for taking care of me" to all her nurses and caregivers.Pallbearers will be Tommy Massengale, Tim Smith, James Clary, Tommy Martin, Hubert Colvin, Curtis G'Villo and Dave Holland. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Larry Skelton, the staff of Meadowbrook Extended Care, her many friends and neighbors of the Stewart and Moundville communities.In earthly death, Annie Ruth is enjoying her eternal reward of life with her Savior Jesus Christ. Praise be to God for his wonderful mercy and grace.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Five Mile Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Lance Hocutt, 1300 McFarland Blvd NE, #125, Tuscaloosa, AL 35406
