Annie Dempsey Carter, 78, of Weaver Ridge, Morehead, Ky., passed away Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at the Life Care Center in Morehead. She was born April 26, 1927, in Moulton, Ala., and was the daughter of the late Emory Eugene and Luevenia Mardis Dempsey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dock Ezra Carter on Jan. 9, 1991; one son, Nicky Royse Carter; and one daughter, Lynn Karen Carter.Survivors include two daughters, Gwendolyn Murphy of Louisville, Ky., and Robbyn Royalty of Stanford, Ky.; one son, Donald J. Carter of Mount Sterling, Ky.; three sisters, Jean Steele of Mount Hope, Ala., Lessie White of Florence, Ala., and Tressie Nix of Moulton, Ala.; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.Mrs. Carter graduated from Morehead State University in 1957 and enjoyed a career in teaching until her retirement. She was a teacher in elementary schools in Elliott County and Bourbon County and was a Latin and English teacher at Sandy Hook High School. Mrs. Carter was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church.Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. James Carter Murphy officiating. Burial was in Clay Cemetery. Pallbearers: Gayle Porter, Dayton Porter, J. B. Carter, Johnny Austin Carter, Roger Utterback and Tim Royalty.
