ANNE WHITAKER TODD1913-2008Anne Whitaker Todd was born on October 14, 1913 to Hurdis and Anne Brock Whitaker in Muscogee, FL. When her father was appointed Sheriff of Escambia County by the Governor of Florida, she moved with her family to Pensacola.She was a graduate of the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. Throughout her life she was active in the civic, cultural and social life of Pensacola. She served as President of the Pensacola Federation of Garden Clubs, President of the Gardenia Garden Club, board member of Pensacola Museum of Art, Pensacola Heritage Society, organizing chairman of the West Florida Genealogical Society, and Vice President of the Florida State Genealogical Society. She was appointed by the City Council to serve on the first Historical Board. She was a member of the Nomads Literary Club and was also a longtime member of numerous hereditary organizations, Colonial Dames of America, Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the War of 1812, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the American Colonists, Dames of the Court of Honor, Jamestown Society and Magna Carta Dames. Mrs. Todd was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was appointed chairman of the Historical Committee and was instrumental in the publishing of the history of First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of many numerous Mardi Gras groups.She was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Calvin Todd, Sr.; her son, Calvin Todd, Jr.; her son-in-law Donald McMahon; two brothers Hurdis and Hugh Whitaker and step great grandchild, William McMahon.She is survived by her daughter, Cyndi McMahon; granddaughters, Elizabeth O'Brien, Madison and Heather Todd; extended family Norris and Donna McMahon; Donnie and Jackie McMahon; John McMahon; Kim McMahon all of Pensacola; Beth and Mark Jarrett of Peachtree City, GA; Jane, Ferrill and Beth McMahon of Atlanta, GA; Katie and Donnie Jarrett of Peachtree City, GA; Norris, Sarah Beth, Emily, Winston and Jacklyn McMahon of Pensacola. She is also survived by her life-long special friends, Louise McConnell of Mobile, Al and Ida Mae Lee.A special thanks to Cathie Armstrong and Dot Warren for the love and care they shared with her.Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 2, 2008 at 1:00pm at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Henry Roberts officiating. Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First United Methodist Church, The Perry House, 6 East Wright Street, Pensacola, FL 32501.HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.
