CARTER Anne Smith Carter, 84, went home to be with the Lord on Feb. 15, 2010. She was born August 25, 1925, near Tryon, NC. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jack; daughter, Marilyn Whitford; sons, Randy, Mike; 8 grandchildren; 2 sisters; and many treasured friends. Anne graduated from Green Creek High School and Rutherford Hospital School of Nursing near Tryon, NC and the Medical College of Virginia where she graduated in 1947 as a Registered Nurse. Her first job as a nurse was at the Lake Shore Hospital in Lake City, FL. Her husband Jack was attending the University of Florida when they met. They were married in 1948 and began their life together in Jacksonville, FL. Anne was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother and her family was most important to her. The family wishes to thank Southlake Nursing and Rehabilitation, Mayo Hospital, and Community Hospice for their exceptional and loving care. We are forever thankful. Anne was a devoted member of Mandarin Lutheran where services will take place on Friday, Feb. 19th at 2 p.m. at 11900 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32223. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of NE FL, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32257. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
