Anne Marie Murphy of Hillcrest Anne Marie Murphy, 66, of Hillcrest, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2009, at Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center. She was predeceased by her loving parents, Mary and Thomas Murphy. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Jim Murphy, Liverpool; her very special nephews, Michael and Beth Murphy, Jay Murphy; and her special niece, Maureen Murphy; a great-nephew, Drew Murphy, who was the light of her life; many cousins in Pennsylvania; and her best friend, Carol Murphy; and other friends she cherished over the years. Special thanks to Marge Mangan, whose love and support was invaluable to Anne. She was proud to have a pen pal since elementary school, June Barnes of Australia. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Church, Binghamton. Anne was born in Scranton, PA, but lived most of her life in Binghamton. She graduated from St. Paul's High School, Marywood College and the University of Rochester. Anne Marie enjoyed being an elementary school teacher in the Binghamton School District for over thirty years and was devoted to providing all the students with a strong basic education. She was active in and an officer in the Binghamton Teachers Association and a lifetime member of NEA. She remained in the local retired teachers as assistant treasurer for NYSRT. She was an RSVP and senior citizens lunch program volunteer. She traveled widely before and after her retirement. A PERSON WHO ENJOYED LIFE, FAMILY AND FRIENDS! A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Paul's Church, Binghamton, Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, PA, on Friday. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Anne Marie may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet Retirement Fund, 385 Watervliet-Shaker Rd., Latham, NY 12110.
