NORTH SPRINGFIELD - Anne Louise Stewart, 70, died July 28, 2008, at her home, following a lengthy illness.She was born on March 19, 1938, in Springfield, the daughter of Leonard Guy and Dorothea Louise Stewart.She graduated in 1955 from Springfield High School, in 1959 from Keene (N.H.) Teachers College and was a postgraduate of Antioch College, also in Keene.Before retiring in 2005, Ms. Stewart was a classroom and special education teacher for 20 years in the Cavendish and Ludlow school systems with most of that time spent teaching at Cavendish Town Elementary School. Prior to that, she was the owner and operator of the former Lad & Lassie Preschool and Kindergarten of North Springfield and Chester.She was a member of the Congregational Church in Springfield.She was an avid quilter, making more than 100, and helped organize several quilt shows in Chester. She was also an avid gardener and enjoyed playing and teaching piano and singing in various church choirs. She also enjoyed the family summer home in Nova Scotia.Survivors include her companion of 20 years, Wendell Barrows; a daughter, Darsanne Leavitt of Spring, Texas; two sons, Terrence Williams of Londonderry, N.H., and Andrew Williams of Unity, N.H.; a brother, James Stewart of Springfield; a sister, Lucena "Beth" Cijka of West Rutland; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at First Congregational Church UCC, 77 Main St., Springfield, followed by burial in Plain Cemetery in Perkinsville.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Program, VNA and Hospice of Vt. and N.H., PO Box 976, White River Junction, VT 05001.
