December 12, 2012 Anna Marie Amato Powell, 94, a life resident of Manlius and Syracuse, NY, died peacefully Wednesday, December 12, 2012, at Loretto Cunningham Center surrounded by her loving family. Anna worked at Easy Washer during World War II, while her husband served in Central Europe. While raising five children Anna was employed by Drumlins Country Club and Syracuse University, first at the Women's Building and later as the front receptionist for Haven Hall. She fully embraced the experience by attending 'Cuse sporting events, especially football, with her husband, Gordon I. Powell. Gordon predeceased Anna by only weeks, passing away October 18, 2012. Anna and Gordon were lovingly married for 71 years. Anna was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Church and the Outer Comstock Neighborhood Association. She enjoyed her family, home, gardening, the neighborhood and SU friends. Anna also loved preparing family dinners where she was an enthusiastic cook. Surviving are two daughters, Marydee Snogles of Liverpool and Janet Andereck (Terry) of California; three sons, Richard of California, Robert (Janice) of Fayetteville, Gordon (Luanne) of Florida; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are five sisters, Josephine (Robert) Morrison of Liverpool, Stella Vecchio of Liverpool, Theresa (Joseph) Rigali of San Antonio, Texas, Lucia Dillion of North Syracuse, Catherine Smallwood of Syracuse; one brother, Morris Amato of California. Anna's family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks for the loving and considerate care given to Anna by the Loretto Cunningham staff. Services will be Monday, December 17, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Burns-Garfield Funeral Home, with burial at St. Mary's Cemetery. A calling hour will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
