Obituary of Anna-Louise Miller

LOANE, DR. ANNA LOUISE It is with great sadness that the family of Dr. Anna Louise Loane (nee Miller) announce her unexpected, but peaceful death on April 3, 2005 at the age of 84. Anna was born June 25, 1920 in Bear River, NS, the daughter of Roy and May Miller. She received her undergraduate degree from Acadia University and her medical degree from McGill University in 1944. She completed postgraduate training at Women's College Hospital in Toronto under Dr. Marion Hilliard, receiving her specialist certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Anna was the first Obstetrician and Gynecologist in Fredericton, setting up her practice in November 1951, and was much loved by her patients for her sensitive, professional and caring manner. In 1955, her beloved husband Herb died. She continued her medical practice in Fredericton until 1965, when she felt called to be a medical missionary in India, and moved there with her two children, Tom and Jane. She retired from the mission in 1974, resuming her practice in Fredericton until her retirement in 1985. Anna lived every moment of life to the fullest, was eternally optimistic, and always put others first. She had a deep faith in God and always maintained a close affiliation with the United Church. She was an active member of the St. Paul's congregation and devoted much time and energy to church life. She had a keen mind and was a life-long consummate learner. She cherished each of her friendships and adored her family. She also loved her cottage in NS, gardening, bird watching, bridge club and trips with friends and family. Anna was predeceased by her husband Herb and her two sisters, Dr. Miriam Beaubien and Mrs. Gertrude Trask. The family left behind include son, Tom (Kathy), Halifax, NS; daughter, Jane Gorman (Tom), Toronto, ON; grandchildren, Christopher, Scott and Jennifer Loane and Daniel and Emma Gorman; and nieces, Elizabeth, Beatrice and Becky; nephews, Stuart, Richard, Doug and Peter. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends, especially her dear friend, Margaret (Peg) Bashow. Anna touched all who met her. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's United Church, Fredericton on Thursday, April 7, 2005 at 2:00 pm. Rev. David Fisher will officiate assisted by Rev. Gil MacKenzie. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements entrusted to McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home. www.mcadamsfh.com [Daily Gleaner]
