ATLANTA, Ga. - Ann Harris Wood, a Georgia native, residing mostly in Augusta, born on December 12, 1934 to Mary Annette Howard Richards and William Franklin Richards at Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta died on December 17, 2013. After graduating from the University of Georgia in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, she taught early grade school education in both public and private school systems in Texas and in Georgia. In later life, she taught English as a second language. She was a member of the Augusta Symphony Guild, a Trustee of Historic Augusta, and a great supporter of the Humane Society. After enjoyment as a tour guide for the Augusta area, she founded Discover Augusta Tours and wrote numerous articles for local publications with Carry Me Back to Birdsville for The Augusta Magazine, Dec. 1990 counted as one of her most favorite. She was a communicant of St. Paul's Episcopal Church since 1970. She is predeceased in death by her husbands first Louis Carl Harris and second James Luther Wood. Her first marriage to Paul Byron Dye ended in divorce. Survivors include two beloved daughters Mary Alden Dye Franklin (George) and Linda Suzann Dye Knap (Spencer), one grandson Anderson Thor Knap, one sister Linda Richards Taylor, also three beloved step-sons Jeffrey Peden Harris (Celie), Louis Carl Harris, Jr. (Frances), and William McCollough Harris (Dedria). The service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 21 at St. Paul s Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends immediately afterwards. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests, if you wish, to send donations to St. Paul's Church, 605 Reynolds St., Augusta, GA 30901 or the Augusta Humane Society, 425 Wood St., Augusta, GA 30904.
