BOSTON - Ann Elizabeth (Rathbun) Phillips died unexpectedly Feb. 14, 2008, in Valencia, Spain. She was a committed educator, a passionate gardener and the loving mother of two accomplished daughters, Caitlin and Juliana Phillips. Ann attended the University of Maine and the Sorbonne, and received her undergraduate degree from Manhattanville. She received her master's degree from Columbia University and was completing her Ph.D. at Harvard University. Her lifelong educational goal was the improvement of classroom teaching and her work was published in the Harvard Ed Review and other journals. Ann is survived by her daughters, Caitlin of Los Angeles and Juliana of Washington D.C.; her sisters, Heidi Godsoe, Deborah Rathbun and Jessica Zipper; her mother, Julia Rathbun; and by friends and relatives in Maine, Montana, Virginia, Texas, California, Australia, Germany, New York, Boston and Vietnam. She was predeceased by her beloved father, Edward Rathbun. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Pius X Catholic Church, Ocean Avenue, Portland. Reception to be held after.
