CARTER Ann Carter, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 18, 1925, in Cherokee, Kansas, to Charles E. Carter and Lottie H. Harr. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother William D. Carter of Boulder, Colorado, and her sister, Charlotte Messer of Phoenix, Arizona. A World War II veteran, Ann enlisted in May 1944 in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. She was proud of her service to our country and a marker will be placed in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell FL. Ann returned to school at age 50 to fulfill her goal of becoming a Registered Nurse. Working as a home health care nurse she compassionately cared for her patients. At age 83 it was with sweet regret that she chose to retire due to health issues of her own. Ann was an avid motorcyclist, loving to ride the roads of America, attending motorcycle rallies, and making lifelong friends far and wide. She was a member of the Honda Sports Touring Association and also the BMW Motorcycle Owners of Northeast Florida. Her favorite rallies were the Sweet Potato Rally in Ocilla-Irwin, Georgia, and the Rocket City Rally in Huntsville, Alabama. She also participated with the Pony Express Relay and Riding into History, functions which raise money for the fight against breast cancer. At the age of 74, Ann participated in the SaddleSore 1000, sponsored by the Iron Butt Association, riding her BMW R1100 RS a total of 1,164 miles in less than twenty-four hours. Ann is survived by her son, Kent (Jane) Stodghill of Oxford, MS; grandson, John (Christy) Easley, and great-grandchildren, Jacob and Cadence; daughter, AnnaMarie (Fred) Rossler of Hudson, FL; grandchildren, Jason FitzGerald, Nicki Rossler, Meghan (Doug) Davenport, and great-grandson Lawson; daughter, Joan Secrest of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Shannon Gilliam, and great-grandson, William, grandson, Shawn (Nicole) Fox, and great-grandsons, Shawn Jr. and Draco, granddaughter, Kristina Fox and great-granddaughter Lorelei, granddaughter, Rebecca Fox and great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Jayden and Dylan.
