Ann Christopher Brown, 78, of 477 Wayside Road, Rome, died Monday morning, Sept. 6, 2004, at her residence following a long illness.A native of Pickens County, S.C., Mrs. Brown was born on Jan. 29, 1926, daughter of Anne L. Christopher and the late Gignilette Garvin Christopher. She was a graduate of Pickens County High School in 1943, was a 1947 graduate of the University of South Carolina, and was active in the Alumni Association of the University of South Carolina.Mrs. Brown was instrumental in forming the Muscogee County Republican Party of Columbus, Ga., in the 1960s and was active in several garden clubs and historical societies and bridge clubs in Rome and Pickens County, S.C. A longtime resident of Rome, Mrs. Brown was a member of First United Methodist Church of Rome, the Altar Guild and the Adult Fellowship Class. She retired from the Department of Family and Children Services in 1988. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh G. Brown Jr., Feb. 8, 1998; and a son, Hugh Gilbert Brown III, formerly of Durango, Colo.Survivors include her mother, Anne L. Christopher, age 109, of Rome, Ga.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Tony Pack, and Harriett and Eddie Brock, both of Rome, Ga.; a sister, Marion C. Emmitt of San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren, Sean Rogers of Athens, Ga., Christopher Rogers of Winder, Ga., Suzanne Garrett of Rome, Ga., Rebecca Farren of Rome, Ga., and Hannah and Hugh Brown, of Durango, Colo.; three great-grandchildren; a niece; and a nephew also survive.Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in the Thomas B. Griffin Memorial Chapel of Daniel's Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mark Sargent officiating. Interment services will be conducted at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens, S.C., at 11 a.m. Thursday. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. today at the funeral home, and may be contacted at their respective homes at other hours.Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church Flower Fund, 202 E. 3rd Ave., Rome, GA 30161.Daniel's Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements for Ann Christopher Brown.
