Angelo "Joe" Marotta Whitesboro Mr. Angelo J. "Joe" Marotta, age 96, of Whitesboro, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2011, in the privacy of his home, with his loving wife, Elvira, by his side. Born in Schenectady, NY, on October 12, 1915, Angelo was the son of the late Salvatore and Alfonsina (Vastola) Marotta. He attended Mount Pleasant High School in Schenectady, graduating in 1933. He continued his academic studies at Union College graduating with the class of 1937 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He was elected an associate of the Union College Chapter of the Society of the Sigma Xi and was a member of the Alpha Phi Delta fraternity. On October 7, 1950, he married the former Elvira Trevisani, with whom he shared 61 years and treasured every moment spent together. A man blessed with a strong work ethic, Joe was professional, reliable, and diligent during his career in Buffalo and Long Island as a chemist as well as when he came to the Utica area in 1941, as a Metallurgist for the magnesium operation with Utica Radiator. He retired in 1981 after 18 years of service at Special Metals as the Director of Manufacturing. Joe was a member of several organizations including the American Society for Metals where he held a life membership, the American Foundryman's Society, S.C.O.R.E., and A.A.R.P. He was also a volunteer at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, having earned the Eleanor Nelson Volunteer of the Year award. He remained active during his retirement, enjoying reading, walking, playing cards, bowling in a league, and being a handy man around the house. He also enjoyed traveling worldwide with his wife, especially taking cruises. Joe was a man of faith and a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Joe is survived by his devoted wife, Elvira; sister, Miss Jane Marotta; several nieces and nephews, including Phyllis and Fred Foster, of Rome, NY, and their son, Fred Foster, Jr.; his great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins, with special mention of Nancy and Jim Norris, of Clifton Park, NY, and John and Mary Marotta, of Dana Point, CA; and his in-laws and their families, Dr. Gino and Arlene Trevisani, of Waterville, and Manuele Trevisani, Anne Trevisani, and Rose Trevisani, all of Utica. He was predeceased by his sisters, Mrs. Louise DeVivo and Miss Mafalda Marotta; great-nephew, John Foster; and in-laws, Miss Florence Trevisani, Nancy and Joe Cittadino, Butch and Maryann Trevisani, Frank Trevisani, Pat Trevisani, and Edmund "Eddie" Trevisani. The family wishes to send sincere thanks to all who gave aid and comfort to Angelo "Joe" during his illness, acknowledging Linda, John, and Joe from the Visiting Nurse Association; Joe's brother-in-law, Dr. Gino Trevisani; and his nephews, Steven and Joseph Trevisani, and Fred Foster, for their time and thoughtful expressions. The family will honor and commemorate Joe's life in a private gathering. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Joe's funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Friday morning at 11:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta. The family will receive visitors in the Salerno Room with refreshments at the conclusion of the Mass. Those wishing to express an act of kindness may make a donation to a charity of choice; envelopes will be available at the service. Entombment will take place in Calvary Mausoleum.
