HANLEY, ANE M. Ane Marie (Longstreet) Hanley was born in Brighton, New York on October 12, 1928, the daughter of James and Lillian (Simpson) Longstreet. The family moved to Ohio when she was a baby, and she was raised in Bedford, Ohio until her departure for the University of Chicago in 1945, where she obtained a BA in 1948 and continued studies for a Master's Degree until 1951. She married First Lieutenant Timothy L. Hanley in Bedford on June 4, 1951, leaving her studies for marriage. The couple lived in Montana, Alabama and Utah while Mr. Hanley was in the Air Force, (recalled for the Korean War) and on his discharge in 1953 they moved to California. Mr. Hanley's work as an Aerospace Engineer took them back and forth across the country, and they lived at various times in Massachusetts, Wisconsin, and different parts of California before retiring finally to Minnesota. While in Wisconsin, Ane attended St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Racine and obtained her RN, enabling her to spend a number of years working at various aspects of nursing - in hospitals, nursing homes, and as a visiting nurse. In Minnesota she became active in the DFL party, serving as Otter Tail County Chair for several years as well as Treasurer of the County party and the 7th Congressional District. She was an active member of the Senior Center, serving on the Board, and playing piano for the Chorus and the Kitchen Band. She loved her family, her music, her pets, and her quilting. Ane moved to Gainesville, Florida three years ago to be nearer to family members. She passed away peacefully at Haven Hospice in Gainesville on April 30th, 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, Charles and James Longstreet, and her husband of 53 years, Tim Hanley. Survivors include daughters Bridget, Victoria, and Margaret (Peggy); and sons Brian and Quentin; grandchildren Emrys, Rose, and Phoenix; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
