KEYES, Andrew Arthur (Frank)1924 -2012It is will great sadness we announce the passing of Frank Keyes on January 4, 2012 at age 87. Born on May 31, 1924 in Campbell's Bay, QC, Frank moved to Ottawa with his family in 1926 to live in Colonel By's renovated stable at 13 Charles St. Frank spent a wonderful and happy youth playing on the banks of the Rideau River with his two brothers, Eric and Earl. He was a dedicated public servant for over 44 years, working for the National Film Board and Consumer and Corporate Affairs where he negotiated international agreements on copyright law. However Frank's true passion was singing opera, beginning his career at the age of 13 in his grandmother's church choir. He went on to share his baritone voice with thousands, performing regularly on CBC radio and TV and in concerts â€" sometimes as a soloist but mostly in duets with his best friend and singing partner, Roger Robillard. In spite of years of striving to overcome the affects of polio and Parkinsons, Frank remained a cheerful and steady presence in his family home up to the end, exhibiting the warmth and charm which characterized his life. Frank is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 62 years, Margaret Munro McBurney (of Dundee, Scotland), and his cherished daughter Karin Keyes Endemann. He is predeceased by his parents, Nellie Dorothy (Liverpool, England) and James Henry "Edmund" Keyes (Vinton, Que) and his brothers, Thomas "Eric" Keyes and Earle Francis Kimpton Keyes. Grandpers will be missed by his grandchildren Kirstin Endemann, Birgitta Lachapelle (Dominic), Björn Endemann and by his great grandsons, Tavias and Caleb Lachapelle. Frank loved life; his success and ability to create laughter and promote love was an inspiration to us all. He was our hero. Many special thanks to Dr. Gick and all of Frank's wonderful caregivers, especially John, Liqin and Ermias, for their extraordinary care.Friends and family may call at Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, on McLeod Street for a receptionon Sunday January 8, 2012 from 2 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Ottawa Parkinson Society.
