DIENO, Alvena Gertrude nee BROWN June 5, 1919 ~ August 20, 2007 It is with great sadness we say good-bye to our wife, mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother, Alvena Dieno. Alvena passed away August 20, 2007 at Saskatoon City Hospital. She was born in Tessier, Saskatchewan on June 5, 1919 to Truman and Stella Brown. She grew up in Blucher, Saskatchewan. Alvena attended Mackenzieville School, took grades 9 and 10 by correspondence, grade 11 at Bradwell and grade 12 at City Park Collegiate. Alvena then went on to attend Saskatoon Normal School and upon graduating, took a teaching position at Manitou Hill School near Young, Saskatchewan. There she met and married William Dieno. They took up farming and moved to Davidson, Saskatchewan in 1953, where they raised their six children and continued to reside until her passing. Alvena was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Davidson. She was one of a group of dedicated quilters who worked tirelessly to make quilts donated to Lutheran World Relief. Her passion was gardening and everything she touched blossomed. Alvena and Bill never missed hockey and baseball games, or school concerts and music recitals for their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Alvena loved family gatherings, going to Seniors, the daily visits to A&W and the shop. Her daily diary entries are legendary and will provide many great memories for her family. Alvena was predeceased by her parents, Truman and Stella Brown, sisters Myrtle Dawson and Gladys Chermcara, brother, Ronald Brown and numerous sistersand brothers-in-law. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 63 years, William, children Terry (Carol) Dieno, Glen (Doris) Dieno, Garnet (Norma) Dieno, Valerie Westgate and John Westgate, Trudy (Scott) McDonald and Lindsay (Karen) Dieno; 15 grandchildren: Trevor Dieno, Tracy (Murray) Hodgins, Trent Dieno; Sean Dieno (Tanya Pomaranski), Michelle (Derek) Roth; Cory Dieno (Brandi Prpick), Erin Dieno; Kim Westgate; Luke, Nigel, Alexa and Madison McDonald; Garrett, Linden and Makenna Dieno; 7 greatgrandchildren: Rhyse Dieno; Nicolette, Jordan and Paige Hodgins; Deklin Dieno; Aidan and Danica Roth. Alvena also leaves to mourn: sister, Candace Allardyce; sisters-in-law Violet Brown, Ella (Emil) Kaminski, Rita (Merv) Smith, Lorraine (Bob) Jensen, Rose (Jack) Shields, Margaret Dieno, Erna Dieno, Bev Dieno, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. The celebration of Alvena's life will be held on Friday, August 24th at 2pm in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Davidson, Saskatchewan with Pastor Ken Finnestad (Lutheran) presiding. Interment immediately following at the Davidson Cemetery. Reception at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Parish Hall. Donations in Alvena's memory may be made to the Davidson Redeemer Lutheran Church or the Davidson Senior Center, care of the Town of Davidson.
