<!-- FH = HENDERSON, LAURA -->HENDERSON, Allen Walter, of Sun City Center, Fla., passed away peacefully October 4, 2011. He was born January 16, 1911, in Water-town, N.Y. He graduated from Northville High School in 1929, from Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., in 1933 and Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pa., in 1937. He met and married Agatha Barden, R.N., in 1938, while an intern at Syracuse, N.Y. During World War II, Allen enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was sent to Brooklyn Naval Hospital in 1941, and then to Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, where he trained in anesthesia. He was commissioned as Lieutenant Commander and served as the anesthesiologist on the hospital ship U.S.S. Refuge in both the Atlantic and Pacific war zones. After the war, Allen went to Bellevue Hospital in New York for a one-year residency in anesthesia. He returned to Watertown and served as anesthesiologist at the House of Good Samaritan and Mercy Hospitals until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists Inc., the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the New York State Medical Society and the American Medical Association. He was active in the Military Officers Association of America and was their oldest member. Allen was an avid photographer and enjoyed boating, fishing, skiing and golfing. In 1980, he and Agatha moved to Sun City Center, where he volunteered at the Blood Pressure Clinic for many years. They moved to Freedom Plaza in 1993. He is survived by his wife, Agatha; two children, Wesley Henderson and Laura Henderson; two grandchildren, Amy Sherman and Jeffrey Sherman; and two nephews, Frederick Rhines and Allen Rhines. He was predeceased by a son, Donald, who died in 1990. Allen was blessed with a long and healthy life, was much loved by all and will be greatly missed.
