Alice Burke Alice Woodman Pieper Burke, 91, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004. A funeral mass will be shared with family and friends Jan. 8 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to The School of Nursing Student Services Fund, Florida State University Foundation, Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL 32306.Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Riggins Road Chapel (850-877-8191) is handling arrangements. Alice died peacefully of natural causes at Broadview Assisted Living in Tallahassee. Born in Boston on May 26, 1913, to Zenas and Katherine Woodman, she grew up in Mattapan, Mass., and was educated at Dorchester School for Girls.She married Charles Pieper on Feb. 22, 1941, and they resided in Ashland, Mass., following World War II and spent summers in Mattapoisett, Mass., for 40 years. In 1978 they retired to Venice, where they were active in the Sarasota Opera Guild and enjoyed dancing and traveling. Following the death of Charles in 1991, Alice married Dr. John Burke of Framingham, Mass., in 1993.She moved to Tallahassee in 2002 after the death of Dr. Burke. Alice loved the opera and symphony and was an avid reader. Her intellectual curiosity and love of words, expressions and vocabulary persisted throughout her long life. She was an accomplished artist and a gracious hostess to family and friends. Survivors include her sister, Geraldine Woodman Parker of Clearwater; a daughter, Katherine Pieper Mason (and husband Harry) of Tallahassee; a son, Charles Pieper (and wife Carole) of Cotuit, Mass., and Greenwich, Conn.; four stepchildren, Edward Burke and Sheila Burke Fair, both of Framingham, Kevin Burke of Cambridge, Mass., and Frances Burke of Reading, Mass.; two grandchildren, Derek Pieper of New York City and Benjamin Pieper of Mill Valley, Calif.; and two nieces, Judy Woodman Black of Clearwater and Jeannie Woodman Hamilton of Boulder, Colo.
