Alice Irene Stacey Sept. 4, 1925 - Jun. 12, 2014 JEWETT CITY - Alice Irene Stacey passed away peacefully on June 12, 2014 in Glastonbury, CT. She was born on September 4, 1925 in Griswold, CT to Hazard and Blanche (Raymond) Arremony. Alice grew up in Jewett City. She graduated from Griswold High School in 1943. After high school she attended the St. Francis School of Nursing in Hartford where she received her diploma in 1946. She worked as a Registered Nurse in Riviera Beach, FL and in North Troy, VT. Alice married Edward Stacey in 1954 in Baltimore, MD. She and Edward just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Alice enjoyed traveling and visited a number of exotic places, China, Australia and New Zealand, to name a few. She enjoyed scrapbooking, landscaping, puzzles and model building, but mostly enjoyed spending time with family, and especially her grandchildren. Over the years, Alice was active in a number of community organizations such as the Cub Scouts, Little League and American Legion. She also chaired American Legion Ambulance fund raising and war relief efforts. Alice was preceded in death by her husband and best friend of 60 years, Edward Stacey; her parents, Blanche and Hazard Arremony; and her five siblings, George Arremony, Rose Lynn, Beatrice Markey, Gladys Burda and John Arremony. She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Michael Perkins) Stacey of Franklin, MA; her son, Edward (Gail) Stacey, Jr. of Glastonbury; her grandchildren, Jeffrey (Alisha Glennon) Stacey of Philadelphia, PA, Scott Stacey of Bend, OR, and Jenielle Perkins of Franklin, MA; her great-grandchildren, Evie and August Stacey; and nieces and nephews. The Stacey family would like to extend their most heartfelt and sincere thanks to the wonderful nurses and staff at Emeritus at Buckingham Estates and Vitas Hospice for their compassion, warmth and caring during Alice's final days. Family will receive relatives and friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, June 16, 2014 at Leffler Funeral Home, 30 North Main St., Jewett City, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at St. Mary's Church, North Main St., Jewett City followed by interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Norwich, CT. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations are made to the Alzheimer's Foundation at http://www.alzfdn.org/ContributetoAFA/makeadonation.html Condolences may be left on Alice I.
