Alice Elizabeth Hall, 80 PORTLAND - Alice Elizabeth Hall, 80, of St. Catherine's Residence on Walton Street, died Wednesday July 27, 2005 at her home after a fulfilled life.She was born in Fort Fairfield on Oct. 8, 1924, a daughter of Herbert and Merinda Russell Schwartz, and attended Ft. Fairfield schools, graduating from Ft. Fairfield High school in 1942.Alice married Cloud A. Hall on Dec. 10, 1945, in Ft. Fairfield, and moved to South Portland in 1946, where they resided at Broadview Park until 1950. In 1950, they moved to 19 Wyndham Street in Portland, where the couple resided until Cloud's death in 1990. Since, 1990, Alice has lived at St. Catherine's Residence on Walton Street.In addition to raising her family, Alice worked outside of the home from 1966 until her retirement in 1986 at Martin's Shop 'N Save in Westbrook. Following her retirement, she and Cloud traveled across the United States and Canada. The couple also loved spending time at their camp on Barker Pond in Sebago, in the summer for family gatherings, and especially in the winter, when they were avid snowmobilers. After Cloud's death, Alice continued to travel with her friend Rita O'Brien, especially on bus trips. In her later years, Alice learned how to cross-stitch, and became an accomplished stitcher. She also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends.Alice will be remembered as a wonderful mother, and as a devoted grandmother and great-grandmoth- er.She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church.In addition to her husband, Alice was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, Herbert Schwartz, Jr. and Russell Schwartz; and two sisters-in-law, Gladys Schwartz and Rachel Schwartz.Surviving are her children, son Stephen H. Hall and Dixie M. Haley of Damariscotta, daughter Merinda Beck and her husband Jaritt of Kelsey, California, and son Joseph C. Hall and his wife Anne of Limington; three sisters, Sr. Mary Denis Schwartz, R.S. M. of Portland, Phyllis Hutchins and her husband Leonard of Chapman, and Sally Adams and her husband Thomas of Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, Thomas Schwartz of Homosassa, Fla., and Robert Schwartz and his wife Jean of Ft. Fairfield; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.Visiting hours will be Friday from 3-7 p.m. at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State St., Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
