Alice Burke, born in 1929, spouse of Ray-Thomas Burke, mother of Kathy, Donald, Johnny, Robert, James, Ray, Sewing, Macram and Crocheting, died on September 24, 2012 at 83 years old.
Alice Lenore Genter Burke - SAVANNAH - Alice Lenore Genter Burke, 83, of Savannah, passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 24, 2012 at her home surrounded by her family under the care of Hospice Savannah. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Ray Thomas Burke, SR. Alice was born and raised in Long Beach, California. She attended the University of Southern California. Alice met the love of her life while he was stationed there in the Navy. They were married and moved to Savannah in 1950. She graduated from Armstrong State College with a Bachelors Degree in Education. Alice taught at St. Vincent's Academy, Washington Ave Junior High, Florance Street Elementary and Bartlett Middle School. From 1957 to 1970 she was involved with the Cub Scouts and Brownies. Alice taught Sunday School, and was active in the Adult Craft Class and was an active member of Calvary Baptist Temple. Alice loved children, Crocheting, Macram and Sewing. She is survived by five sons; Ray (Paulette), James, Robert, Johnny (Elizabeth Lee), Donald; one daughter, Kathy Tinker; ten grandchildren, Ashley, Lauren, Lee, Madison (Tommy), John, Kaitie, Michael, Noah, Robert, Rachel; three great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Casey and Alexander. Visitation: 5 - 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept, 26, 2012 at Fairhaven Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel. Funeral Service: 11:00a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012 in the Chapel of Calvary Baptist Temple with Rev. Wayne Watts officiating. Entombment: Hillcrest Abbey Mausoleum.
