Memorial service for Alfred Lee Smith, 84, of Holly Hill, who passed away Friday (May 15, 2009) at Florida Hospital-Oceanside, will be held Monday at 4:00 P.M. at the Dale Woodward Funeral Home, 167 Ridgewood Ave., Holly Hill with Rev. Wiley Lowe officiating. Alfred "Al" was born in Danville, VA to the late George W. and Sally Smith. He had been a resident of the area since 1958 coming from his birthplace. An army veteran of World War II, Mr. Smith retired from City Provisioners. He enjoyed playing golf and was a fan of both NASCAR and the Atlanta Braves. In lieu of other remembrances the family suggests donations be made to Florida Hospital Hospice, 770 W. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach, FL 32174. He was predeceased by a son, "Little Al"; two brothers and three sisters. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Irene; two daughters, Terry J. Roeper (Kurt), Holly Hill and Deborah Moss (Jimmy), Danville, VA; four sons, Robert E. (Mia), Bunnell, FL, Donald L, Holly Hill, John E., Daytona Beach, Ronald W. (Brenda), Marietta, GA; three brothers, Harold, Danville, VA, George W. Jr., Raleigh, NC, and Chester Scearle (Vernell), Danville, VA; two sisters, Della Arthur (Richard), Tallahassee, FL and Elizabeth Marshall, Danville, VA; 11 grandchildren and 18 great- grandchildren.
