ROY, Alfred Joseph Born December 23, 1917 in Dollard, Sask, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on January 27, 2004 in Coquitlam, BC. He is predeceased by his father Adelard and mother Anna, 3 sisters and 4 brothers, and his son Leslie Antal. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 55 years, Bella. Daughters, Rose-Marie Couling (Gord), Suzanne Spanjers (Henry). Sons, Charles Roy, Gerald Roy (Sheryl) and James Brown(Sandra), 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. His sister Germaine, and many nieces and nephews. Alfred was raised on the family farm in Dollard,SK. They were not easy times during the depression and Alfred had many jobs during his youth to help the family, everything from working in the local coal mine to trapping gophers. During WWII Alfred served in the RCAF as a flight mechanic instructor stationed at Boundary Bay. He remained in BC after the war and started work at Pacific Veneer in New West. At PV he met and married the love of his life, Bella Laberge. Married in 1948, they eventually settled in Maillardville to begin to raise their 6 children. After leaving PV, Alfred owned and operated a hotel in Fernie BC for many years. Upon the sale of his hotel he returned to own and operate a janitorial service for approximately 10 years. In his retirement years Alfred pursued his love for gardening and woodworking, almost always surrounded by grandchildren at his knees. Mrs. Bella Roy and family would like to express their gratitude for the loving care he received at Lakeshore Care Home. Alfred was a warm and caring husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him. Prayers, Sunday, February 01 at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes, 828 Laval Sq., Coquitlam. Funeral Monday, February 02 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes, 828 Laval Sq., Coquitlam. Celebrant Fr. Stan Fryteck OFM. Interment to follow at Fraser Cemetery, 100 Richmond Street, New Westminster, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations to BC Heart & Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
