MADAWASKA - Albert Roy passed away unexpectedly Feb. 24, 2011, at Northern Maine Medical Center, Fort Kent. He was born Sept. 11, 1927, in Madawaska, son of Hilaire Roy and Florida (Bosse) Roy. After serving in the armed forces, Albert returned to Madawaska. He worked for 20 years at Fraser Paper in different areas. Al worked at Fraser Credit Union from January 1950 until retiring as chief executive officer in December 1989. He will be fondly remembered by the many people he worked with and served at the credit union. He served on Credit Union League board of directors and also National Credit Union board. In 1983, Al was awarded the League Directors Award for outstanding league volunteer. Al also served in community affairs such as trustee of Madawaska Water District; member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church Council; member of Madawaska School Board; rotarian, legionnaire and past Knight of Columbus. Al was a very humble man who showed kindness to everyone he met. He had the greatest outlook on life. After spending 21 winters in Plant City, Fla., he was ready to spend his last retirement years in Maine. Al enjoyed golfing and playing cards. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 63 years, Shirley (Morin) Roy of Madawaska; son, Ronald and his fiancee, Julia Greiwe-Martinez, of Elkridge, Md., and his children, Alexander of Santa Monica, Calif., and Chelsea of Elkridge, Md.; daughter, Debbie and her husband, Philip Caron, of Madawaska; one sister, Sylvia Golman of Southington, Conn.; and his dear brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Roger and Joyce Morin. Al was predeceased by one sister, Geraldine Corriveau. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 28, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Family and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Lajoie Funeral Home. There will be no visiting hours prior to the service Monday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Edgar J.
