Born May 27, 1926 in Millinocket, Maine, Alan was preceded in passing by parents, Donald Arthur and Kezie Josephine Wood St.James; and sisters, Faith and Ruth. He is survived by wife, Beverly; children, Arthur, Howard and Julienne; and sisters, Joan and Betty Nan. He was a combat veteran of WW II, as well as a 1950 graduate of the University of Maine at Orono, with a BA in journalism and history. He kept New Yorkers up to date for 45 years at newspapers including the Brooklyn Eagle and Newsday, as a union member. Married in 1959, Alan served on the vestry at St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church while living in Floral Park, N.Y. Alan retired in 1995, and he and Beverly moved to Arden, North Carolina in 1996. He always wanted his exit music to be "Oh when the Saint goes marching out..."Donations may be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness of N.C.
