EAST POULTNEY - Alan D. Williams, 70, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at Rutland Regional Medical Center. Born in Rutland on July 7, 1944, he was the son of Arthur E. and Veronica A. (Steward) Williams. He was a graduate of Poultney High School and he served in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Williams was a retired pipefitter and member of the Pipefitter Union. He was employed by Cotter Inc. in Danvers, Mass., as one of the company's first two employees working with stainless steel pipe and tubing and automatic orbital welding. He also worked in chip manufacturing for DEC, Genzyme Genetics and Biopure, and then in industrial pipe fitting and X-ray welding. In retirement, he operated Poultney Taxi. He enjoyed electronics, computers and machinery. Survivors include his wife of five years, Julie Ann (Catindoy) Williams of East Poultney; one son, Vern Stevens of Cape Coral, Fla.; and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by one sister, Evelyn Anne Williams. A private graveside service will be held at a later date in Poultney Cemetery.
