Agnes Henderson, daughter of Robert and Ellen, died at 93 years old.
HENDERSON -Agnes Grace Henderson, 93, passed away on Wednesday, April 13. She was predeceased by her father, Robert in 1939; mother, Ellen Margaret in 1958; and brother, Rupert in 2001. She is survived by cousins, Irma (Walter) Dupin, Beatty, SK, Onnolee Empey, Waverly, ON, Iris Empey, Toronto, ON and Charles (Norine) Empey, Osgoode, ON. Grace grew up in Saskatoon and exhibited musical talent at an early age. In her Junior Examination she was awarded a mark of 92, thereby receiving the Silver Medal for the highest mark in Canada. She continued her musical studies and received her A.T.C.M., Solo Performer's, in 1931. Following this, she was awarded a scholarship for two years of study at the Toronto Conservatory of Music. She presented a recital at the conclusion of her second year but was unable to continue her studies, due to ill health, towards a Licentiate Diploma. Returning to Saskatoon, she continued her studies with Marjorie Wilson and Lyell Gustin. She built a class of students even though the economic times were difficult. When a Chair of Music was established at the University of Saskatchewan, she was successful in achieving the degree of L.M.U.S. She became very involved in the musical life of Saskatoon, joining the Musical Art Club, the Registered Music Teachers' Association, and the Women's Musical Club. When her father passed away, Grace took a business course and returned to Toronto in 1942, working with the Canadian Pacific for 34 years. Upon retiring in 1976, she returned to Saskatoon and resumed her musical involvement, rejoining the Musical Art Club and serving as its President for a one-year period. She was later awarded a Life Membership. She served a three-year term as President of the Saskatoon Music Festival Association, an organization dear to her heart. She, in her gentle unobtrusive, almost invisible way, contributed much to the musical life of Saskatoon. She will be remembered most fondly by all who knew her and were associated with her, both in Saskatoon and Toronto. The Funeral will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 15 at the chapel of the Saskatoon Funeral Home.
