Adah-Hunter Nelson, born in 1908, spouse of Dennie-Wingo Hendrix, daughter of James and Fannie-Durham, mother of Carole L, died on April 23, 2003 at 95 years old.
Adah Hunter Nelson, 95, of Hawthorne Inn, formerly of 516 Hampton Drive, Spartanburg, died April 23, 2003, at St. Francis Women's and Family Hospital. Born in Pickens, she was the daughter of the late James Leonard and Fannie Durham Hunter, and was the widow of George W. Nelson. She was predeceased by her first husband, William George Littlefield; and her second husband, Dennie Wingo Hendrix. She was a graduate of Pickens High School and attended Furman University. She worked for Southern Bell for many years and retired from Aug W. Smith after 20 years of service. Mrs. Nelson was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Spartanburg. Surviving are a daughter, Carole L. Tate, and her husband, F. Wayne Tate, of Greenville; a grandson, Chip Tate, and his wife, Jean Tate, of Greenville; and two great-granddaughters, Brooke Ann Culp and Kinlea Hunter Rogers. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Cynthia Ann Tate; and three brothers, Walter Cleo Hunter, Brady Thomas Hunter and Wayne Orel Hunter. Memorials may be made to the Building Foundation of Southside Baptist Church, South Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Southside Baptist Church in Spartanburg, with visitation, prior to the service, from 10 to 10:45 a.m. The family is at 5 Ivanhoe Circle, Greenville.- Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown.
