Albert Detlous Godwin, 74, of DeLand, peacefully passed away on May 19, 2010 at the Hospice of Volusia / Flagler Care Center in Orange City. He was born on May 17, 1936 in Leesburg and grew up in Jacksonville, FL. He came to DeLand from Ormond Beach in 1986. Mr. Godwin was a retired Captain in the US Navy, Supply Corps. He was a graduate of Florida State University and the Banking School of the South at Louisiana State University. He was the president of Sun Trust Bank in DeLand. Mr. Godwin was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in DeLand, where he served as stewardship co-chairman and had served on the finance committee. He was former president of DeLand Breakfast Rotary and Holly Hill Rotary Club, former captain of DeLand Quarterback Club, former president of Stetson University Hatter Boosters, former president of the Holly Hill Chamber of Commerce and on the Board of Governors of the Daytona Beach area Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Godwin loved his family and his church, especially his daughters and his grandson. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Dawn Godwin; daughters Jennifer Griffis and husband David of DeLand, FL and Lori Hansard and husband Jeffrey of Ormond Beach, FL; and grandson Clay Griffis.
