BROWN, A. Laura (nee Paddock) November 19, 1911 December 1, 2010 It is with profound regret that we, the family, announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Laura Brown. Mom passed peacefully on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 having just celebrated her 99th birthday, after a long and productive life. She was born in the small farming town of Rivers, Manitoba into a farm family of ten and spent the first quarter of her life in Manitoba. Mom received her Nursing Degree in 1935 and spent a number of years working as a Community Health Nurse in the Rivers area. She was married to her beloved husband Bert in 1941 and in 1945, they moved to Alberta, settling in Calgary in 1947 where they raised their two sons, Bob and Ray. In 1965, Bert and Laura moved to Victoria where they spent the next thirty years. After Bert's passing in 1988, Mom returned to Calgary to be closer to family and has spent the last sixteen years of her life here. Bert and Laura were baptized into the Jehovah's Witnesses organization in the mid 1950s and faithfully served the organization throughout their lives. They have left a legacy to all of us in the family and will be fondly remembered and sadly missed. Laura is survived by her sister Frances Hay of Thunder Bay, ON; son Bob (Karen) of Calgary, AB; grandchildren, Laurann Brown of London, UK, Warren Brown (Emma) of Boston, MA and Terri LaRose (Randy) of Moose Jaw, SK; as well as by her great-grandchildren, Alex, Liam and Ethan. She was predeceased by her husband Bert (1988), her son Ray (1972) and eight siblings. A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com .
