Gregory-Allen-Padget-Long Island, born in 1949, son of Paul-Warren and Shirley-Allen, father of Gabriel Freeman Padget and Mass, died. Please consult the obituary here:
LONG ISLAND -Gregory Allen Padget "Grit" 58, of Long Island died peacefully on June 21, the first day of summer. He was born in Ithaca, N.Y. on July 10, 1949, the son of Dr. Paul Warren Padget and Shirley Allen Padget. In 1976-1981 he was married to Barbara Sullivan. He is survived by his daughter Gabriel Freeman Padget Noble and her husband Alexander T. Noble of Winchester, Mass.; his two sisters Marsha Tillotson and husband George of Harrisville, R.I., S. Yancey Padget and partner Renae Rota of Nashville, Tenn.; step-mother Anne F. Padget of Tully , N.Y.; niece Bethany Josefson and a nephew Jordan Coulson. He was predeceased by his mother Shirley Allen Padget , father Paul Warren Padget and his sister Gail Padget Coulson. Greg grew up in Tully, N.Y. He was the first Eagle Scout in his hometown. He graduated from Tully High School in 1967, where he was the captain of the Cross Country Ski Team, a sport in which he excelled. His team held several state championships. He graduated with a degree in Psychology from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo. and later owned and operated a health food store called "The Pepper Corn" in Durango, Colo. Greg moved to Maine in 1970 and lived in several central Maine towns including Kingfield, New Portland, Caratunk, Farmington and Portland before moving to Long Island in Casco Bay where he lived for the past twenty years. He was fond of his tight knit island community and took great pride in the natural beauty and the isolation of the island. Greg was known for his stone masonry where ever he lived and was a proponent and builder of the Count Rumford Fireplace which was designed by Benjamin Franklin. He was an avid reader, naturalist and animal lover. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on South Beach on Long Island on July 10, 2008. Arrangements are under the guidance of Independent Death Care, 471 Deering Avenue, Portland.
