William 'Bill' Richard Davisof Pepperell, Littleton church member; 93 PEPPERELL -- William "Bill" Richard Davis, of Pepperell, passed away Jan. 20, 2010, after a short illness.The son of the late James Absolum Davis and Aletha Anna (Lewis) Davis, Bill was born in Cumberland County, Tenn., on May 30, 1916.During World War II, he worked on the cleanup at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii as a ships' carpenter, and later recruited civilian personnel in New England for the U.S. Navy.The best recruit of all, was his wife of 64 years, Francys Sherwood of Pepperell. They married in the Episcopal Christ Church in Fitchburg on Aug. 30, 1945.Bill worked for the State of California for 25 years, as a deputy registrar of contractors before retiring with Fran to Pepperell in 1980. Bill was a faithful a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and was proud to serve for many years as an ordinance worker in both the Boston and Washington, D.C. LDS temples.Blessed with great energy, humor, and a tiny penchant for mischief, Bill spent tireless hours tending his Main Street garden, working wood in his cluttered shop, cooking Tennessee comfort food, enjoying the outdoors, reading, and most of all, spending time with his family.Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and two younger brothers, James "Elmo" Davis, of Dayton, Ohio, and Alva Davis of Crossville, Tenn.In addition to his wife, survivors include, two sisters, Lennis Ryerson of Newark, Ohio, and Mary Lee Bolin of Crossville, Tenn.; a son, Ronald Davis and his wife, Kathleen of Pepperell; grandchildren, Elizabeth Clawson of Salida, Calif., Rebecah Davis of San Francisco, Christina Yin of Brookline, Heather Cooprider of Bedford, James Davis of Pepperell, Christopher Davis of Provo, Utah, and Stephanie Davis of Vista, Calif.; and great-grandchildren, Meghan, Samuel and Erin Clawson, Ada and Alice Cooprider; his grandsons-in-law; a granddaughter-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.DAVIS -- William "Bill" Richard Davis, of Pepperell, passed away Jan. 20, 2010, after a short illness.Visiting hours Tues. 6-9 P.M. at the Hamilton-McGaffigan Funeral Home, 37 Main St. (Rt. 113), Pepperell.A Funeral Service will be held Wed., January 27,1 P.M. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 616 Great Road (Rt. 119), Littleton.
