William Henry Lyon, a resident of Sunrise of Arlington, MA, since 2010, died March 29, 2014. Born June 4, 1926 in Waltham, MA he was 87 years old. He was the son of W.H. Lyon, founder of W.H. Lyon Real Estate Lexington, MA and broadcast radio pioneer, Lexington, MA and Effie S. (Prime) Lyon of Digby County, Nova Scotia. In his senior year at Lexington High School (MA), he was the guiding force in the construction of civil-defense radio station WKND. His disability, of congenital blindness in his right eye, was waived when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy (in his senior year of high school, March 1944), because of his extensive knowledge of radio technology. He served at NPM a Navy short-wave radio station, Oahu, HI and near the close of WWII he served at CINCPAC, the Pacific Fleet Headquarter of Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, where he was a member of Nimitz's telecommunications staff. After the war, Mr. Lyon entered Boston University, College of Business Administration. In his junior year he was elected to Beta Gamma Sigma, the business school honor society for scholastic excellence. He received his degree in 3 years, graduating in 1950. In June of 1958 he married Caroline Bleecker Boissevain, the daughter of Henri & Caroline Boissevain of Short Hills, NJ. Mr. Lyon worked for W. H. Lyon Real Estate, Polaroid Corporation and as Vice President of Johnson & Higgins, a privately owned insurance brokerage firm, he traveled internationally. His clients included the Cabot Corporation, the John Hancock Office Tower, Lahey Clinic and the Mass Port Authority, overseeing the expansion of Logan Airport. He retired early and moved from Cape Cod, MA to Carlsbad, NM but after his bride of 52 years died in 2010, his family in MA beckoned him home. In 2001, his book was published: The Descendants of Michael Prime, Pioneer Loyalist Settler at Grand Passage, Long Island, Digby, Nova Scotia, the genealogy of his mother's family. It records 2,875 descendants for 9 generations. All proceeds were donated to the Admiral Digby Library & Historical Society. Mr. Lyon was a Life Member of MENSA, The Bostonian Society, Admiral Digby Library & Historical Society, The Carlsbad Sportsmen's Club, New Mexico Shooting Sports Association and the Republican National Committee. Mr. Lyon was pre-deceased by his 2 younger brothers: Robert Lowell Lyon of Lexington, MA and Richard MacAlpine Lyon of Las Cruces, NM and is survived by his three sisters: Dorothy Lyon Fietze of Burlington, MA, Judith Ann Quinn of Hudson, MA and Elizabeth Conant Bucell of Lexington, MA. He is also survived by 10 nieces and nephews and 16 grandnieces and nephews. Mr. Lyon was an accomplished painter, philatelist, genealogist, sailor, epistolary architect and God-Father. He will be remembered by his distinct laugh, his love of life, his quick wit, his big heart and as a gifted host of family luau's on the Cape. Funeral services are private.
