Sgt. 1st Class William "Jack" Carter, of Greenville, died Friday, October 16, 2009. Born in Prince West Virginia, he was the son of the late Ivan Carter and Taxie Collins Carter. Mr. Carter served in the U.S. Army for 30 years. He was a member of Oakcrest Baptist Church and an Ordained Minister. Surviving is his wife, Mary Frances Messer Carter, three daughters: Helen Frances Taylor of Pelzer, Sue Nelson of Piedmont, and Betty Marie Ford of Travelers Rest; one son: Mark Carter of Greenville; seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son: William Joseph Carter. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 19, 2009 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. A graveside service will be Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Graceland East Memorial Park. The family is at the residence.
