<!-- FH = Webb Funeral Home -->Verdie Mae CoxLittle Switzerland - Verdie Mae Cox, age 96, of Chestnut Grove Road in Spruce Pine, died at the home of her daughter, Melba in Marion.Born on May 26, 1915 in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Columbus and Bessie Schism Smith and wife of the late Virgil Cox. She was preceded in death by two brothers; Frank Smith and Bert Smith and two sisters; Maude Smith and Josephene Young. She was a member of the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church.The funeral service for Mrs. Verdie Mae Cox will be conducted on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 4:00 pm at the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Little Switzerland with the Rev's Vernon Buchanan and Greg Burnett officiating. Interment will follow in the Burnett Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 2:00 pm until the service hour at the church.Mrs. Cox leaves behind two daughters; Jenella Walls and husband, Robert of Charles City, VA and Melba Lyons of Marion; granddaughters; Dawn Rash and husband, Cort of Fuquay-Varina, NC and Marcy Carter and husband, Michael of Marion; one grandson; Victor Lyons, II and wife Jamie of Little Switzerland; and six great grandchildren.
