Velda Ruth (Cantwell) Smith, 83, of Spiro, Okla., died May 28, 2007, in her home with her family and loved ones. She was born July 1, 1923, in Ada, Okla., the youngest of three daughters, to Eb and Bessie Cantwell. Velda Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, Leta Mae Christy and Emily Ann Gall. Velda Ruth is of the Baptist faith. She has spent the past 60 years helping build the family ranch and Ridgewood Estates development south of Spiro and creating the family home. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Jake L. Smith of the home; a daughter, Judy Martin of Springfield, Mo.; a son, Jack Smith and wife, Sheila, of Spiro, Okla.; a daughter, Laura Nell Cavin and husband, Jim, also of Spiro, Okla.; five grandchildren, Amy Olive of Heavener, Okla., Robert Martin and wife, Karen, of Ozark, Mo., Dan Martin and wife, Laura, of Dittmer, Mo., Dan Cavin and wife, Kelly, of Tulsa, Okla., and Tim Cavin, also of Tulsa, Okla.; seven great-grand-children, Kelsey and Tara Olive, Kiley, Bryant, Josie, Jake and Jackson Martin; two sisters-in-law, Gail Roberts and Virginia Fields, both of Tulsa, Okla.; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends that will miss her deeply. Funeral services were held on May 31, 2007, in Spiro, Okla. Velda has been laid to rest in Garden of Memories, Spiro, Okla.
