Smith, Shirley Kay NASHVILLE, Tenn. Shirley Kay Smith, born in New Lebanon, N.Y. passed away on the morning of Thursday, April 3, 2008 in Nashville. Shirley was a lifelong resident of New Lebanon, where she was a hairdresser until she began working in the kitchen at Berkshire Farm. She cooked and baked there for 19 years before she became disabled and retired. Shirley was a friend who always had coffee or tea ready for visitors, a sister, and a daughter who cared for both her brother and her mother when they could no longer care for themselves, and an aunt who was always available with an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on, and a home for refuge. Shirley was a mother, and there are no adequate words that can describe the gift she was to her daughter. Shirley's health had been compromised for many years due to diabetes and heart disease, but her spirit never failed her or those who were blessed to be in her presence. In March of this year she moved to Nashville to spend her remaining time with her daughter. Shirley is predeceased by her parents, Egbert and Mildred Smith; her sister Dawn Hover; and her brother Leonard Smith. She is survived by her nieces, Tammy Hover, Dianne Dittmeyer, Tara Hover, and Tabitha Verge; her nephews, Todd Hover, Greg Baumli Jr., and Mark Baumli; her brother, Bruce Smith; her sister, June Baumli; and her daughter, Robin Dianne Helliwell. Arrangements by Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, Directors 615-331-1952.
