Sandra L. Smith, 64, Columbus, passed away at 12:17 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, in Bartholomew County.Mrs. Smith graduated from Riley High School in South Bend in 1964. She was previously employed by the South Bend Tribune, Irwin Union Bank and East Side Veterinary Clinic. She was an animal lover and enjoyed sewing, dancing and traveling. She would help everyone she could and especially enjoyed time with her family. She was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church.Born in South Bend on April 2, 1946, she was the daughter of Conrad E. Calmer Sr. and Margie Carter Calmer. She married Stewart C. Smith on Sept. 21, 1968, and he survives.Other survivors include a son, Patrick (Kristy) Smith, Columbus; a daughter, Carolyn (John) Schafer, Gilbert, Ariz.; grandchildren, Alisha Pluris, Karmyn Smith, Bradyn Smith, Cayley Schafer and Cara Schafer; a brother, Conrad (Arleen) Calmer Jr., Reddington; and a sister, Cathy (Steve) Hancook, West Lafayette.Father John Fink will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Columbus. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery, Columbus.Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, Columbus, with a rosary service at 7 p.m.Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of South Central Indiana or Bartholomew County Humane Society.Friends and family may view a video tribute, light a virtual candle and send a message to the family at www.jewellrittmanfamily.com.
