Sam Riker Davis of Plymouth, MA died in Ruidoso, NM on February 26, 2014 at the age of 91. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Davis, his parents, Frances and Shippen Davis, sister Hester and brother William. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Dorothy Davis; his children, Pam (Terry) Schmidt of Denver, CO, Riker (Cindi) Davis of Ruidoso, NM, Shippen (Rifle) Salas of Ruidoso, NM, George (Emily) Davis of Villanova, PA, Dan (Meg) Warren of Brunswick, ME, Caleb Warren of Barnstable, MA, Katharine Warren of Plymouth, MA, Ethan (Linda) Warren of Marblehead, MA; 13 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sisters Frances Fisher and Nina Jackson; brothers Rodman Davis and Gardiner Davis. Sam graduated from Pomfret School '41, Harvard '45 and Columbia Law '50. He served during WWII in Japan as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army. He practiced law and was a partner with Reynolds, Richards, LaVenture, Hadley and Davis in New York. Sam was a true gentleman with a welcoming smile and encouraging word for everyone. He will be remembered by his large family and many friends for his wisdom, kindness and generosity. His love of life and for family is captured in the following quote: This I will remember when the rest of life is through: the finest thing I've ever done is simply loving you. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Sam's name to Wildlands Trust, P.O. Box 2282, Duxbury, MA 02331 or Pomfret School, 398 Pomfret St., Pomfret, CT 06258. A memorial service is planned for April 4th at 11:00 at Christ Church in Plymouth, MA.
